DT's Burning Daylight Rolling Happy Hour #8

Dave Tampellini's Burning Daylight Rolling Happy Hour (DTBDRHH) is going to be held on Friday June 20, 2008.

Here is how this works:

Meet at Washington's Crossing Park in New Jersey at the parking lot by the river, bicycles ready, at 5:00 PM EDT. We will ride north on the tow path on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River. The goal, as per custom, is to ride to Lambertville and New Hope and stop in several of the establishments for refreshments and then ride back to Washington's Crossing before it gets completely dark.

Well...this is a goal and I don't think anyone has ever made it back before dark. This is a rain or shine event. Please mark you calendars.

And if you don't have a bicycle, or can't ride, or simply refuse to ride, that is fine too. You should come out anyway; we would love to see you. Updates, rules, venues, and hazard locations will be e-mailed in the coming days.

Let me know if you would like to be removed from this mailing; also you can tell anyone and everyone you know about it. We would love to see them too.

My best to you all, and eff Larry,

Ska

These are FAQ’s that were addressed to gman (OK the truth is that I made this up) concerning DTBDRHH…

Questions and Answers:
Gman, what the hell is this DTBDRHH all about?
Ans: Every year we ride bicycles from Washington Crossings Park to New Hope (approximately 8 miles one way)

Gman, when do you do this?
Ans: Tradition says that we try to pick the longest daylight Friday of the year, so it is as close to summer solstice as possible, hence the name burning daylight. But the NeoCon non-traditionalist among us have transformed this to mean any convenient Friday in June (much to the chagrin of the stalwart traditionalist among us).

Gman, what time does the ride begin?
Ans: Typically the ride starts at 5 PM in Washington Crossings Park on the NJ side.

Gman, why do you this every year?
Ans: It is a good excuse to do two things we like, riding and drinking. Besides it allows everyone to reconnect with friends and complain about the undeserved point allotments during the previous years TDDoC.

Gman, I don’t want to ride but I like the idea of drinking, what should I do?
Ans: You have two options (1) meet us in New Hope and drink with us there as we bar hop (2) ride in the SAG wagon. Those of you with cell phones will find it easy to find us, those w/o a cell phone drive to New Hope and listen for Ska you will be sure to hear him as it has been rumored that occasional he speaks very loud.

Gman, what is a SAG wagon?
Ans: The SAG wagon is used for riders who are unable or unwilling to complete the full ride. Riders are picked up at a convenient point and driven the rest of the way.

Gman, who is operating the SAG wagon?
Ans: This year Gman and Su will be driving the SAG wagon, we may start in the park, possibly provide drinks midway on the way to New Hope and ride along with as we bar hop?

Gman, what doe SAG stand for?
Ans: That is really not relevant!!! You are straying from the point. Think “drinking”… Support and Gear

Gman, what happens after you bar hop through New Hope?
We cross the bridge and bar hop through Lambertville.

Gman, what time do we return?
Ans: Typical we return somewhere around midnight (there have been times when we returned as early as 9 PM). We just go with the flow.

Gman, I thought riding in the park after dark is illegal?
Ans: Yes it is

Gman, you say that this is an annual event, how long have you guys been doing this?
Ans: This is probably the 8th year that we have been doing this.

Gman, what happens if it rains?
Ans: This ride is a rain or shine ride. If it does rain bring a couple extra tee shirts because shirts tend to get very muddy. Extra clothes can be stored in the SAG wagon.

Gman, is this ride a race?
Ans: Absolutely NOT everyone rides at his/her own pace, there is no rush.

Gman, should you do this ride if you are too pretty to get wet if it rains or if you have a single kidney?
Ans: It is not recommended that those who are self proclaimed “too pretty” to get wet during rain storms or those with only one kidney attempt the riding portion of this event, however it is strongly encouraged that the pretty and uni-kidneyed show up for the drinking part of the event. Please consult your doctor and bartender before riding, DT is not responsible for any loss of beauty or that last kidney during this event.

Gman, should I expect to see men in biker shorts bulging in the front and firm in the rear?
Ans: If you are a woman and you expect this you should come dressed accordingly, if you are a man and you expect this please see Goettle and ask for some of his top Google searches, he can show you some websites or pictures that would probably interest you.

Gman, who is responsible if I don’t have fun?
Ans: Walk over to the nearest mirror, ensure that there is no one in front of you or behind you gaze into that mirror and there you have your answer

I tried to ask/answer all relevant questions but if there are any more please ask. Try to set this date aside, hope to see you guys out there.
